Out of the abyss!

Oh my peas it’s been forever since I’ve been here! Last thing I remember was sharing my Rehab Potato Chips and then I fell into an abyss…well I think the medical term is called pregnant 🙃 Yes that’s right I lost my mind (what was left of it) and had another baby! A beautiful little boy who is now almost 2 1/2 years old😊 


Another monkey to the zoo has kept me super busy but of course that wasn’t enough for me I had to go make another baby…not an actual baby!! I think I would have to be committed if that happened 🤔 I took a giant leap of faith and started selling my baked treats from home! Introducing…drum roll please…

🍰 My Little Crumbs Bake Shop ðŸ°

After having baby number 4 I felt part of me got lost somewhere along the way. I was “doing” a lot but I wasn’t “feeling” a whole lot. Is there something wrong with me that I’m not getting full satisfaction and rewards from being a wife and mother? Whoa…this post just took a serious turn but hang in there around the corner is something fantastical I promise! 

Over the years and even through some of my posts, I’ve been finding my way back to a whole me without even realizing it. I was creative as a child and always loved to draw and I had a wild imagination. I’ve been creating, what I now recognize as little works of art, from my corn on the cob cupcakes to bib and sock cupcakes. And every time I’m in creative mode, something switches on inside me like a shining light of pure happiness and fulfillment. 


With the encouragement of my amazing brother and my supportive husband, I launched my Facebook page in April of this year. It has been amazing to see the positive response and the orders just started coming in! 


I have no professional training in baking or decorating. I teach myself with YouTube videos, Pinterest tutorials and, if you can believe it, actual books! The one thing I have trained myself in is the art of believing in me. I can’t remember who said it but I love this: “If you can dream it, you can achieve it”. I remind myself this every time someone places an order for something I’ve never done before (which is 99% of the time). I just figure if it’s been done before then it’s possible and I’ll make it happen 😊


I wish my brain had reminded me I used to write posts here, then I would have been taking my usual step-by-step photos of how I make the things I do. Ah well, guess there wasn’t enough room in there while trying to balance a teenager, twins, a toddler and my husband 😐 I’m going to try and remember to share the experience of my creations and perhaps someone out there can also tap into a part that got lost or never knew existed 😊

I’m working on a Winter Wonderland theme Sweet Sixteen order for a cake and cookies. As I go along I’ll post the different elements and how to do them that will come together to make a whimsical and beautiful cake, as well as the cookies.

Rehab Homemade Potato Chips

Rehab?? Yes because you will be totally addicted to these after the first bite!!

Now the first time I made these my mandolin got the better of me…well of my pinky finger 😳😁 No worries after my trip to the ER I was assured that it will grow back 😊

Ok so that was a gross way to start off this food blog entry! I promise it gets all golden and crispy after this…the potatoes of course!!

I was making chicken wings and didn’t feel like doing my usual wedges so I thought chips would be the perfect partner to my wings. I was feeding my hubby, teenage girl and the monkeys, so I used 2 russet potatoes scrubbed and unpeeled. Setting the mandolin to 1/4″ I sliced my potatoes…always use the guard people!!!

After slicing the potatoes I placed them in a bowl of cold water and heated up about an inch of peanut oil over medium heat. You can use vegetable oil or any other oil with a high smoke point…definitely not olive oil.

Now here comes the part requiring the cheapest brand of paper towel because you will use quite a bit. Laying the slices in a single layer on the paper towel and place another paper towel on top to get all the moisture off…oil and water are not friends!

Carefully place the slices in your heated oil but don’t overcrowd the pan. Flip the slice over after about a minute or two. I like to wait until I see the edges curl under slightly and the colour just starts to golden. Fry the other side for about the same time.

Remove the chips…see how they are no longer “slices” and have now been promoted to “chips”…and place in a large shallow bowl lined with, you guessed it, paper towel!

I season a little as I place batches in the bowl with some kosher salt.

These are so good on their own or with a dip. You could also season with Cajun spice or a mixture of your own favourite to change it up. There wasn’t a chip left after dinner 😊

S’mores Popcorn Balls

I love having kids as an excuse a reason to make fun snacks I probably wouldn’t make just for myself…actually I would make these!

My eldest, Yasmeen, loves s’mores and a good friend of mine gave her a s’mores kit as a gift. Hmmmm probably should’ve taken a picture of that before I dismantled it 😳

I used the graham crackers and chocolate from the kit and used my own marshmallows (halal).

Using 10 cups of air popped popcorn, Yasmeen broke the graham crackers into pieces, and a cup of marshmallows, we tossed it all together in a greased roasting pan. Because we didn’t have mini marshmallows, we tore them into bite size pieces.

The rest of the 250g package of marshmallows went in a pan with a 1/4 cup of butter to melt over a medium-low heat until it was all smooth. Off the heat and in goes 1 tsp of vanilla.

As soon as the vanilla is blended, pour the marshmallow goop over the popcorn mixture and coat with a greased spatula.

At this point I started the double boiler and put the chocolate (2 oz) in to melt while Yasmeen and I shaped the popcorn into balls…about a 1/2 cup for each ball.

We placed the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Once the chocolate was melted, I drizzled the melted chocolate on each ball with a fork. Placing the tray in the fridge for about 10 minutes allowed the chocolate to set before turning the balls and doing the other side.

Wow! These were amazing! Perfect snack for a movie night ☺

The Bachelorette Finale Cupcakes

Who got the final rose???

With the much anticipated final episode of The Bachelorette on Monday night, the cousins planned a finale party. I offered to bring dessert of course!

I made chocolate cupcakes with a chocolate frosting. I dipped the edges in red decorations sugar to give it a little bling factor.

For the roses I used watermelon Fruit Taffy. I sprinkled some sugar on my rolling surface because taffy is super sticky. I rolled out the taffy into rectangles and using my pizza slicer I cut a strip about 1/4″. The rest I cut into squares.

Rolling the strip up and pinching the bottom created the centre of the rose. Then taking the squares and pinching the two bottom corners together, I created the petals. I just attached them around the centre of the rose. I had to do a little fanning out of the petals. Placing parchment paper on a baking sheet, I put the roses in the fridge…taffy and humidity is a bad combination!

The tootsie rolls I rolled out and again with me handy dandy pizza slicer I cut out leaves…making sure I scored them down the middle with my slicer. Tootsie rolls stand up a little better in the humidity…but just a little.

I attached two leaves to the bottom of each rose and kept it all in the fridge until I was ready to serve my cupcakes.

I will warn you that if they’re left out for a while and it’s warm, you will have a taffy meltdown and the roses will slide right off your cupcakes!

As for The Bachelorette, I will keep those detailed opinions to myself; however, I believe my cupcakes were a hit which made up for the miss the finale ended up being!

Corn on the Cob Cupcakes

I was so excited to finally put up my Baby Shower Gift blog entry because I had to wait until the Shower was done, that I didn’t get to post my fun BBQ dessert I made the day before!

Because I don’t believe in eating corn unless it’s popped, corn on the cob is NOT on my menu when I have a BBQ party! Any food that goes out looking the same way it went into your body serves absolutely no purpose 😳

So I made Corn on the Cob cupcakes! I baked up 24 vanilla cupcakes and frosted them with a cream cheese frosting.

Then working in batches of 3’s I put rows of jellybeans (combo of creamy white and yellow like peaches n’ cream corn). And the flavours of the jellybeans were Ah-maz-ing! Lemon for yellow and the creamy white was Banana Cream Pie! Yum!

Lining up the 3 cupcakes so that it looked like corn on the cob, I stuck corn holders on each of the end cupcakes.

Using yellow tootsie roll, I flattened it out into a rectangle and cut it in half. To make it look like it was melting, I pressed the edges a bit and placed my “pat of butter” on my “cob”.

They were the perfect BBQ dessert!

Rub-a-Dub Baby Shower Gift

After getting all my washcloth/bib/sock cupcakes in a row, it was time to assemble the final gift. And because we decided to throw a BBQ at our house the day before, I was scrambling the morning of the Shower to get this puppy sheep together!

I took a piece of cardboard (from the box of the umbrella we bought the day before for our deck BBQ party) and covered it with tissue paper and made a border with the ribbon I used on the sock cupcakes. I love my hot glue gun!

I used a small cardboard piece , oh my I must be tired, piece of cardboard and folded it into a box for a pedestal to put the sheep on so the sheep’s head and arms were just over the bath supply basket. Pinning the hooded towel to the sheep’s ears, I draped the rest over the pedestal and around the bottom of the basket. Then I placed the cupcakes around and figured out how I wanted them before hot glue gunning the paper liners down. The ones without liners I just made sure were between the liner ones to secure them from moving around.

In my chaos of getting the diaper bag ready, twins ready and looking for my keys 3 times 15 minutes before the Shower was to start (did I mention I had a 40 minute drive to the venue?!) I completely forgot to take a picture of the finished gift!!!

Anyhoozers, my cousin was absolutely glowing and the Shower was awesome and it was totally worth the minor freak outs 😊

Mmmm Cupcakes Part II

Okay so I didn’t have to wait for another sleepless night, although I’ve had plenty since the last blog entry!

So the second type of Baby Shower Cupcake is made with a bib, washcloth and the pipe cleaner-Pom Pom thingy from the first cupcake type I did (scroll down and you will see what I’m referring to).

First I took a bib and folded it like so

The next part was a little tricky but in a few tries it can be done even if you’re not crafty 😊
Place a washcloth over your fist and poke it down the hole in your fist.

Then start folding the corners into the hole but make sure it’s still poofy!

Roll it up in the bib and secure the bib with a pin.

Play around with the washcloth until you get a nice poofy cupcake top. Then add the Pom Pom that’s hot glued to a piece of pipe cleaner – like the previous cupcake type- and there you have yet another type of Baby Shower Cupcake!

With this one I didn’t put it in a liner because the bib had a edge on it that made it look like a liner…and it was too fat in a regular liner. However if you want it to go in a liner you could use a coffee filter and make it fit snugly with a ribbon!
